Spiders Nesting in Mazda 6 cause massive recall by federal safety investigators

Mazda is recalling about 52,000 Mazda 6 cars because yellow "sac" spiders like to build their nexts in part of the car's fuel system, federal safety investigators at Nhtsa announced. Model years 2009 and 2010 Mazda 6 cars are the only ones where the spider infestation problem has been found.

After 20-some reported cases of spider infestation in the car model, Mazda reported the problem to federal investigators and a recall resulted. Mazda reportedly told Nhtsa that "a certain type of spider may weave a web in the evaporative canister vent line and this may cause a restriction in the line."

That evaporative canister vent line runs from a charcoal-filled canister that cleans air coming out of the gas tank. Blockage of that line can prevent air from getting into the gas tank as the gas is being used by the car. If that happens then the air pressure changes in the tank and that can lead to a crack in the gas tank. Cracked gas tanks can lead to a vehicle fire.

Not even Mazda knows why the spiders prefer the model year 2009 and 2010 Mazda 6 cars.

Since all modern cars have the same type of fuel tank canister equipment, one would think the Ferrari Spyder would be a prime candidate for the infestation. Or maybe the Toyota Spyder model. Not true. As company spokesman Jeremy Barnes reportedly said, "maybe they just like cars that go 'zoom zoom'. We honestly don't know."

If your lemon has spiders, and your Mazda dealer isn't helping, call us. Getting rid of lemon cars, and their spiders, is what we do. Everyday since 1978.

Because life's too short to drive a lemon.
Especially one with spiders in it.
